Legacy of Blood - Slasher Icons

The horror movie is one of the most popular genres within the American film industry. The adrenaline rush that comes along with jumping in your seat as a result of some horrific moment though, there are a few different subgenres.

within one of these movies gives a certain pleasure that just can’t be replicated by anything else. Within the horror movie genre Possibly the most popular subgenre and definitely the most commonly associated with the horror genre is the slasher film.

The killers who methodically stalk their victims, rarely breaking a sweat, rarely having to run to chase down their prey, and who never seem to die off permanently enough to cause any delay in a sequel are some of our most enduring pop culture icons.

To evidence this fact, Halloween, one of the original ancestors of the slasher, grossed over $75,000,000 in the first six years following its release while only costing $320,000 to make (Clover, 23). Clearly there is a market for these films.

This website takes a look at five of the most popular and influential slasher film killers. They are icons within our culture and their images and voices (or sounds) are instantly identifiable by millions of Americans.

Leatherface, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and Chucky are the killers we’ll be looking at, so use the links to your left to navigate through this legacy of blood.
