Motion pictures and the film industry have been very popular in America since the first decade of the 20th century. Since then, entertainment as a whole has changed, and that, in turn, has had a dramatic effect on the American lifestyle. Film also can be used as a means to spread ideas, thoughts or even propaganda. An analysis of the early beginnings of the film industry and its maturation to where it is today can tell us not only a lot about entertainment, but even more about how we as Americans can let film shape our ideas and opinions.
