| Nike was a corporation that did not just develop worldwide over night. Nike the corporation was originally founded in 1964 by Phil Knight as "Blue Ribbon Sports" in Buaerton, Oregon. Nike was a business that was built for the people through a basketball legend "Michael Jordan". Because of Michael Jordan's basketball skills and fame he became Nike's leading spokesperson. Jordan's icon and inspirational image has increased the economic development of Nike. Nike sold the idea of "Just Do It". The idea of "Just Do It" created the idea of whatever you wanted to do, whether it was fly like Jordan or reach a goal sold millions. Nike is increasing globalization in the United States and in Oklahoma every year, thanks to advertising. "In the mid 1900's, Nike was a 9 billion dollar company with half of its sales overseas. It spent nearly 50 million dollars in research and development and more than half a billion dollars on advertising, and marketing worldwide, dwarfed the spending of competitors like Reebok, Fila, and Adidas." (lafeber 55) Nike has more than 22,000 employers and over 700 contracted suppliers in about 52 different countries throughout the world, employing more than 550,000 workers on any given day." Once Nike established its multi- billion empire it could not be stopped. Nike reached its goal for better or for worse and is still climbing in the economy. Although the United States has suffered from all kinds of political, social, and economic deterrence's our economy is still standing. Events such as Sept. 11 and the Oklahoma City Bombing. Killing more than 168 people our globalization is still in tact. People are once again back to normal and still supporting Nike products. Nike has opened up to many more advertising prospects for example, clothing. They now sell sports wear, not just limiting to to basketball. There's tennis, soccer, golf, and football. They also specialize in stores for women's and children's clothing and shoes. Also with the help of all different sports endorsers " Reggie White defensive for football champions Green Bay Packers, golf champion Tiger Woods, and tennis star Pete Sampras." (Lafeber 154) The U.S. globalization is on a that is expanding everyday. |
