    course description

Students in all sections of Introduction to Film learn about the fundamental elements of film form and narrative structure. This honors section intensifies the standard course in three ways. First, students will be required to compose a series of short papers in response to weekly screenings, the best of which will be posted to our course website. Secondly, our readings will be more intensive, engaging with difficult issues in contemporary film theory. Lastly, our course screenings and discussion will be organized around the theme of “Cult Cinema,” focusing on the works of directors such as David Lynch, George Romero, John Waters, David Cronenberg, Luis Buńuel, Barbara Peeters, Samuel Fuller, Seijun Suzuki, Monte Hellman, John Cassavetes, Takashi Miike, and Edgar G. Ulmer.
